The palaces and forts of the yesteryears, which were witnesses to the royal processions and splendours are now living monuments. En-route, visit Fatehpur Sikri - a perfectly preserved red sandstone “ancient city” which was the estranged capital of Mughal Emperor Akbar. Day 09: Jaipur to Udaipur by road (380Kms, 7 hrs) Morning drive to Udaipur- an oasis in the desert state of Rajasthan, visiting Pushkar en-route. Pushkar boasts temples, though few are as ancient as you might expect at such an important pilgrimage site, since many were deserted by Aurangzeb and subsequently rebuilt. The most famous is the Brahma Temple, said to be one of the few temples in the world dedicated to this deity. It is marked by a red spire and over the entrance gateway is the hans, or goose symbol, of Brahma, who is said to have personally chosen Pushkar as its site.
