There is no better way to experience the cultural heartland of India-Rajasthan than by the Palace on Wheels. This week long train journey takes you through Rajasthan, visiting many cultural and historical highlights. There are 14 sleeping carriages named after the states of Rajasthan each containing 4 en-suite bedrooms. The train has 2 restaurants “The Maharaja” and “The Maharani” with a Rajasthani ambience serving Continental, Chinese, Indian and Rajasthani cuisines. Also on board is a bar, lounge and library.
Day 01: Tuesday Arrive Delhi
Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 02 : Wednesday Delhi Cantt.
Your dream journey starts from Delhi the city of ruined forts and rising towers. From Delhi Cantonment, the Palace-On-Wheels is outward bound every Wednesday night for Rajasthan - the Land of Maharajas.

Day 03 : Thursday Jaipur
The first stop of the Palace on Wheels is Jaipur, the land of Maharajas, magnificent Palaces and impressive forts. This capital city of Rajasthan, popularly known as the Pink City, was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, in 1727.

Day 04 : Friday Jaisalmer
In the heart of the Thar desert lies Jaisalmer, founded by Rawal Jaisal, in 1156. Here the yellow sandstone Fort is an imposing sight, towering magnificently on the shimmering sandscape. The main shopping area of Jaisalmer is Sadar Bazar and prominent showrooms include Rajasthali - the only Rajasthan Government emporium.

Day 05: Saturday Jodhpur
A city ringed by a high stone wall with seven gates and several bastions, Jodhpur is the second largest city of Rajasthan, founded by Rao Jodha in 1459, and is known for its rock-solid Mehrangarh Fort.
The grand palaces within - Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana are impressive examples of architectural excellence.

08:30 hrs: Depart for local sightseeing.
13:00 hrs: Have lunch at the Umaid Bhawan Palace.

Day 06 : Sunday Sawai Madhopur/Chittaurgarh
Sawai Mahdopur was named after its founder Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I. After breakfast we go to the Ranthambhore National Park. We depart for Chittaurgarh after lunch on-board. In the afternoon we visit the Chittaurgarh Fort, lauded in legends for valour and chivalry. Shop for tie & dye sarees, leather, embroidered shoes, lac- work articles and bangles.

Day 07 : Monday Udaipur
Udaipur was founded by Maharana Udai Singh of Mewar. With enchanting lakes and lush greenery, this place oozes with beauty and is a symbol of romance, the most appealing place for poets, painters, travellers and writers. This fascinating capital of Mewar is surrounded by hills and is situated on the edge of three lakes.

Day 08 : Tuesday Bharatpur/Agra
Arrive Bharatpur and pay a visit to the world famous bird sanctuary, Keoladeo Ghana National Park, the nesting place for thousands of Egrets, Siberian Cranes, migratory water Fowl and other species of birds. Agra is known for its splendid marble inlay work like the Pietra Dura work on the Taj Mahal, leather goods and jewellery.
07:00 - 07:30 hrs: Arrive Bharatpur. Breakfast on board.
07:30 - 09:00 hrs: Visit to National Bird Sanctuary in Bharatpur (Ghana). Once the former hunting preserve of the Royal family of Bharatpur, the sanctuary is home to storks and nearly every other kind of bird imaginable. You’ll see more than 250 different species nesting on the tops of trees and along the roadside, as well as snakes, lizards, exotic fish and monkeys. Lucky visitors can spot the rare Siberian Crane that migrates to this preserve annually. Also found are chital, black buck, deer and other varieties of animals.
10:30 - 11:30 hrs: Visit Fatehpur Sikri - the deserted, red sandstone city that was built by Emperor Akbar as his capital and palace in the late 16th century. It was a veritable fairytale city and its “ruins” are still in pristine condition. Also visit the Buland Darwaza, the largest gateway in the world.
13:00 hrs: Lunch in Agra.
15:00 - 17:00 hrs: Afternoon sight-seeing tour of Agra city visiting the impressive Agra Fort, and of course, the most perfect architectural monument in the world -The Taj Mahal.The Taj Mahal is the mausoleum of Empres’s Mumtaz Mahal, the beloved spouse of Shah Jahan, who died in 1630. The Taj Mahal is remarkable for its perfect proportion and rich pietra dura, with minute details executed with great skill. The building, often styled “a dream in marble” is said to have taken 22 years (1631-1653) to build.
20:00 hrs: Palace on Wheels departs for Delhi. Dinner and overnight on board
Day 09 : Wednesday Delhi Cantt.
Palace on Wheels dream journey ends in Delhi, the heart of India. Delhi is the capital of India and her third largest city. It is a truly cosmopolitan city - a home to people from different states, speaking different languages and celebrating different festivals. Enjoy the multi-colored atmoshphere filled with tremendous “josh” and enthusiasm.
